Caboolture has developed into an important commuter township being located just 45 km north of Brisbane. Its local enconomy is based on dairying, timber, tropical fruit, cattle & service industries. Caboolture was first settled in 1840s and the name is said to be Aboriginal for ‘carpet snake’. Caboolture markets each Sun am. Country Music Festival (May), Medieval Tournament (July), Rodeo (Dec).

Bribie Island
(21 km east) A hugely popular day trip destination particularly since 1963 when a bridge was built across Pumicestone Passage giving easy access to the island - the only offshore island to have this. Sitting on the n-w edge of
MoretonBay, it is partly a retirement centre, family holiday retreat and sports lovers paradise with a population of about 15 000. As much of the island is protected by a national park, there are plentiful varieties of wildlife, 350 bird species and many areas of natural bushland and pristine beaches. Caboolture Airfield and War Plane Museum (2 km east). The airfield is popular for skydiving, gliding and ballooning whilst the museum has an extensive collection of WWII memorabilia and displays. Woodford (22 km n-w) interesting little town with a vast collection of narrow gauge steam locomotives. Mount Mee State Forest (23 km west) features scenic boardwalks through subtropical rainforest pockets and lookouts over Morton Bay and the surrounding area.
