Thurra River, Croajingalong NP
East Gippsland
East Gippsland covers an area of over 21 000 sq km in South Eastern Victoria. It extends for 300 km from Sale in the west to Mallacoota on the NSW border. Five rivers flow into a variety of lakes and lagoons resulting in Australia’s largest navigable inland waterway where all types of water sports can be enjoyed. Tourism naturally is a major industry here together with burgeoning gourmet food & wine production. Important towns in this region are Sale, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Orbost and Mallacoota whilst many of the smaller coastal towns are noted for their fishing fleets. Beautiful and sometimes remote national parks abound here namely Croajingalong, Snowy River, Errinundra and Mitchell River comprising some 2 680 sq km of the total region.
