The Great Ocean Road

Great Ocean Road Vic

The Great Ocean Road is a stunning 200 km stretch of road in South West Victoria extending from Torquay (east) to Warrnambool (west). It is one of Australia’s great scenic coastal drives and there are actually 7 various touring options (some more coastal and some more inland) but all spectacular. There are many lovely little seaside villages (Anglesea, Fairhaven, Lorne, Apollo Bay & Port Campbell) and breathtaking national parks. Great Otway NP was declared in 2004 comprising a number of state parks. It is notable for its diverse landscape, last remaining rainforest remnants and fauna including large numbers of koalas around Aire River campground. The Cape Otway Lighthouse sits adjacent to the park. Port Campbell NP was established in 1964 to protect the many dramatic and striking limestone formations (The Twelve Apostles, London Arch, Loch Ard Gorge, The Gibson Steps & The Grotto). It comprises 1 750 ha from Peterborough to Princeton and is directly adjoined by the Twelve Apostles Marine NP. Walking, snorkeling, photography  & surf fishing are all popular here, but no camping allowed.

Visitor Information Centre: Adjacent Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum, Merri St, Warrnambool. Tel (03) 5564 7837 or 1800 637 725.
