Limestone Coast SA
The Limestone Coast was formerly known as the South East region of South Australia. This scenic low-lying area has required a network of drains spanning almost 1 500 km in order to channel the water through the sand dunes to the sea. Deep limestone deposits have been created from flooding here millions of years ago and the Naracoorte Caves contain interesting fossils detailing its geological history. Main towns in the area include Bordertown, Keith, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Kingston S.E., Robe and Coonawarra, famous for its wine growing. Viticulture is one of the major industries of the region together with farming, forestry and tourism greatly enhanced by the beautiful 50 000 ha Coorong NP.
