Outback NSW
Pic: by Jim Fisher
Outback NSW is a remote region situated between the rich sheep and wheat farms of Central NSW and the SA border and consists mostly of floodplains, gibber plains and a lot of dust! Although often disastrously affected by droughts, an emerging tourist industry is developing with discoveries of ancient rainforests, establishment of National Parks such as Mungo and Kinchega and Aboriginal evidence of early occupation. Mining of minerals, gas and gemstones are also important industries. Main Outback towns include Broken Hill, Bourke, Cobar, Brewarrina, White Cliffs, Walgett, Wilcannia, Lightning Ridge.
