Perth Surrounds WA

Perth is surrounded by a number of vibrant and interesting towns. The capital’s modern feel contrasts well with the nearby historic port city of Freemantle, lovingly known as ‘Freo’ which is located 20 km south and linked to Perth by a suburban sprawl. To the west (18 km) is Rottnest Island, an ideal holiday/day trip destination. The Swan Valley is found 34 km n-e known for its fine wines, fruit orchards, historic towns and bushland. Sitting 35 km east is the 80 000 ha Darling Range consisting of jarrah forests, rugged cliffs and waterfalls. Yanchep NP is 53 km north and renowned for its limestone formations, underground caves and tuart forests. Other important towns in this area are Yanchep, Northam, Mundaring,York, Mandurah, Pinjarra.
